The rumor is more and more insistent, The Carlton, emblematic hotel palace de la Croisette in Cannes, would again be sold. Nine months after being bought by aLebanese businessman, the luxury hotel was the subject of further negotiations.

“The sale of the Carlton Hotel to a Qatari investment fund is almost ready,” says the town of Cannes, one of whose concern is to maintain the quality of this Hotel in the service of the prosperity of the city of Cannes.

The Hotel was supposed to be closed during eight months from January 2012 for a renovation and expansion. With this purchase, what about the promised investment and the closure of the hotel ?

The investment required would be confirmed or amplified. In their commitment to luxury, the Qataris rely on Cannes and La Croisette, they are willing to make the finest hotel in Europe. ”

14 Boeing 747 - Nice airport to accommodate 14 Boeing 747 and Airbus carryingsix heads of state and delegations. Nicolas Sarkozy, meanwhile, will land on the airport of Cannes that can not accommodate large aircraft.

Missiles on the cover - Sol-Air Missiles were installed in the hills above the city and you can see two missiles “Rattlesnakes” at the tip of the breakwater of the Port Canto. A submarine is lurking at the bottom of the bay and an aircraft carriercruising off … reassuring or scary? Hopefully they do not try to grab the prize of the festival fireworks!

Cannes hosts six nights of fireworks over the summer at theFestival d’Art Pyrotechnique.

For 25 years – from 21 to 27 February in 2011 – the city of cinema has swapped its red carpet in the month of May for the green baize covering a multitude of tables in February! But this is not just a matter of colours: chess, checkers, cubes, cards, figurines, pawns, coins, wheels, bâtonnets, balls, letters, numbers and, of course, keyboards and screens… are provided to all those seeking their place in this haven for games!

The FIJ –International Game Festival of Cannes – has become a reference, an area of freedom, a venue where game designers must be present, not so much to market their latest inventions, but rather to test them with the public – 150,000 visitors last year! L’As d’Or rewards the most inventive game of the year. Alongside the usual traditional games, visitors can try these prototypes or rediscover old, even ancient, games, as well as traditional games from Africa and Asia.
The FIJ in Cannes attracts people from all over France and the entire world to learn new rules and try their hand at hundreds of new parlour games, practise new techniques, gape at the new concepts that will be tomorrow’s successes, like Abalone, Dixit and Magic: The Gathering, all shown first on La Croisette.
Aficionados of video games will find the way to their frenzied planet in the rooms and corridors of the Palais des Festivals!

Alongside areas for the presentation of games, many tournaments are organised in several disciplines – cards, video games, scrabble, chess, draughts… – as well as demonstrations with experts, like the chess champions Viktor Korchnoi and Anatoly Vaisser. And there are even rumours that Didier Drogba, Chelsea’s legendary Ivorian centre-forward, could be there to launch one of the stages in the European Football Championship on PlayStation, the PES League.
And the FIJ will pay tribute in his presence to the Richard Garfield, the author of Magic: The Gathering – 3 billion sold worldwide, As d’Or 1996 – to unveil his new game, King of Tokyo!

In February in Cannes, games are there for the taking without moderation and free of charge in a wonderful ambiance of conviviality and sharing!

Jump on your bike for Charity!

Registration is now open for the 2011 Aedas Cycle to Cannes. The event will be taking place from 3-8 March 2011.

Every year since 2006, passionate cyclists ranging from fit commuters to hardened roadies have pulled together and cycled 1,500km from London to Cannes, raising much needed funds for charity. Last year, 85 riders raised a staggering £172,000 for charity – all generated in the midst of recession-hit Britain.

CEO Nick Hanmer notes “it is a lifetime experience – the pro-style backup and support means this is the closest an amateur rider will get to feeling and riding like a professional.” After completing the ride the cyclists, all professionals in property, change their Lycra for their business suits and take part in the MIPIM Property Fair.
